The Essex Highlands Christmas Special

Ring the changes on the same old Christmas Lunch. Work up an appetite with a gentle morning of sightseeing before enjoying Christmas lunch as a group in a lovely pub. Christmas Lunch in the Oak Dining Room

Enjoy Christmas Lunch in the oak dining room then relax in the lounge by the fuire for an afternoon of conversation and board games

Join us today to explorer a little known and beautiful part of Essex that's anything but flat! Discover the story of the man who saved Christmas and enjoy a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. an afternoon of card and board games by the fire and tea and coffee with minced pies before heading home to doze on the coach! How's that for a group Christmas lunch with a difference?

We begin this rather splendid day in Saffron Walden at 10-30/10-45am to buy morning refreshments and take a peek at this ancient town named for the saffron crocus once cultivated in the surrounding fields.

Then we set off by coach for an enjoyable winter’s drive through the Essex Highlands. From high in your coach there are wonderful views to fill your folk with joy and pride at the beauty of our country. At Arkesden, the gem of the Essex Highlands, we stop to visit the church and celebrate the life of the man who saved Christmas!

On to Elmdon for lunch and a lovely afternoon together. This really is a super pub and a victory for the local community who campaigned to save their pub from the grasps of developers. Parts of the original tap room date from 1450 and the new restaurant, with its vaulted green oak roof and oak floor, fits in beautifully. Come and settle in with a sherry included in the tour fee ready for lunch to be served - a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. Lunch is in the tour fee and group members can buy wines or bar drinks to suit.

Now for a really fun and sociable afternoon. You can team up to play cards or board games by the roaring fire, sit back and relax with a chat or join the Guide to step across the street to see the village church (the landlord keeps the keys behind the bar). Coffee or tea with mince pies, included in your tour fee are served at 3-45pm ready for you to return to the coach to head home by 4-45pm. What a great way to celebrate Christmas 2011 with your group!

Available weekdays throughout November and Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in December. We can also accept bookings into January.

The tour fee includes a small sherry, Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and a cup of tea or coffee and a mince pie.
